Understanding Symbiosis
Symbiosis is a type of long-term or near-term biological interaction involving two different biological organisms such as a reciprocal relationship between two different living things., well that's amensalism, mutualism, paratisme, or commensalism.
There is also an understanding of symbiosis, which is being able to survive relying on or dealing with other living things of a different kind. Symbiosis has been divided into 2 categories among them are
- Ectosymbiosis, which is a form of relationship between two different types of organisms in which there is one living organism on the outside of the other organism.
- Endosymbiosis, which is a form of a relationship between two organisms of different types where basically this one organism lives on the inside of another organism.
Types of Symbiosis and Examples
The following are types of symbiosis and also examples of examples :
1. Symbiosis Mutualism
Symbiosis Mutualism is a relationship between fellow living things that can benefit both parties. An example of a symbiotic mutualism is as follows: :
- Flowers and butterflies, In the process of pollination flowers are also assisted by butterflies, Butterflies get nectar too.
- Rhizobium bacteria living in the roots of legume plants will also get food and while plants and legumes also get nitrogen which is being bound by Rhizobium sp..
- Rafflesia flowers and also flies, which is where the Rafflesia flower is assisted in the pollination process and also the flies get the juice from the flower.
- Shark and Remora, which is where the shark can be clean and the remora fish can get the rest of the shark's food.
- Bees and hibiscus flowers, where the bees can help the hibiscus flowers during the pollination process and the bees also get nectar.
- Starling and Buffalo, where the starlings can eat the lice on the buffalo's body.
- Clown Fish and Sea Anemone, which is where the clown fish can get protection from the sea anemone then the sea anemone also gets the rest of the clown fish's food.
2. Parasitism Symbiosis
Parasitism Symbiosis which is a relationship between fellow living things in which one party benefits but can harm the other. Examples of symbiotic parasitism are as follows::
- Stomach worms with hookworms that live in the human intestine, which is where the worm will get its food essence from the human intestine.
- Rafflesia flower and its host, which is where the rafflesia flower can absorb the essence of the food from its host and the host is taken from the essence of its food.
- Parasites and their hosts, which is where the parasite will get the essence of food and its host is taken as the essence of food.
- Princess rope and her host, the daughter rope that absorbs food juices in the form of organic substances while the host will lack food juice because it is absorbed by the daughter rope.
- Plasmodium and humans.
- Taeniasaginata and beef.
3. Commensalism Symbiosis
Commensalism is a symbiotic relationship between living things in which one party benefits but the other is not harmed and neither is benefited.. Examples of commensalism symbiosis are as follows::
- Mango tree with Orchid Flowers
- Betel on plants and their hosts
- Ramora fish with Turtles
- Whale with Ramora Fish
- Whales and balanidae
- Mushrooms grow on rotten roots
- The host plant with deer horn ferns
4. Amensalism Symbiosis
Amensalism symbiosis is a relationship between living things in which one party is harmed and the other is neither benefited nor harmed.. Examples of amensalism symbiosis are as follows: :
- Penicillium fungi secrete penicillin and bacteria. Penicillin can kill bacteria but there is no benefit and no harm.
- Walnut tree and other plants (cannot live because walnut trees also produce allelopathic compounds).
5. Neutralism Symbiosis
Neutralism is an interaction between individuals that is mutually exclusive and does not affect each other nor does it have any effect on the two animals or plants. So if they also live side by side with each other in a living environment but neither of them can gain or lose at all.
Some examples of neutralism symbiosis are as follows: :
- Giraffe and elephant
- Cats and goats
- Owls and tigers
Explanation : in one environment in a meadow in a vast savanna where there are a variety of plants or animals living together, including giraffes and elephants., but even though they live side by side they don't get the influence of the relationship at all. Neither party gains or loses.
6. Competition Symbiosis
Competition is each other's competition between plants or animals to maintain life. Then there will be a competition to win something in between like a place of power, and also food.
Here are some examples of competitive symbiosis examples are as follows: :
- Jaguars and wolves
- Lion and tiger
- Cow and buffalo
Explanation: Buffalo and cow have a symbiotic competition because they are both herbivores who eat plants so they compete for food to keep them alive..
