Definition of Centrosome

Then each centriole moves to the poles of the dividing cell. At the interface level (interface) consists of duplicated chromosomes, centrosome duplication & chromosomal condensation.
The centrosome helps regulate the cell cycle and is an integral part of mitotic cell division. Centrosome consists of centrioles and pericentriolar material.
The pericentriolar material is composed of proteins such as tubulin, pericentrin and ninein. The two centrioles will be orthogonal to each other.

Main Functions of Centrosomes and Cell Division
The main function of the centrosome and the function of the centriole is to assist in mitotic cell division.
During the process of mitotic cell division, otherwise known as karyokinesis, the number of chromosomes is maintained, the number of chromosomes in each daughter cell (cells formed by cell division) same as stem cells (cells undergo cell division).
Mitotic cell division occurs in all body cells except for reproductive cells produced by meiosis. While mitosis produces diploid cells, meiosis occurs in 2 level, leading to the formation of haploid gametes.
Centrosome function
In addition to the main functions discussed above,, The centrosome has many other functions. Then what is the function of the centrosome?? namely as follows
- The centrosome is attached to the nuclear membrane during prophase of the cell cycle. In mitosis, the nuclear membrane is destroyed and by the centrosome microcosm so that it can interact with the chromosomes to form the mitotic spindle. Mother of centrioles, older than centrioles, also plays an important role in the production of cilia and flagella.
- Centrosomes are copied only once per cell cycle. So each child cell inherits 1 centrosome, contain 2 structures called centrioles/centrioles. Centrosomes replicate during cell cycle phases. During the process known as mitosis, centrosomes migrate to opposite cells. The mitotic spindle then forms between the 2 centrosome. During sharing, each daughter cell receives 1 centrosome. Aberrant number of centrosomes is associated with the presence of cancer.
- Double centrosomes are also similar to DNA replication. However, the process is different, because there is no reading or insertion on the Centrosome. The centriole mother only helps to collect the materials needed for the collection of the centrioal chicks.
- Centrioles are not required for mitosis. When the centrioles are irradiated by the laser, Mitosis will proceed normally. Drosophila development is quite normal in the absence of centrioles, because gene mutations are required for their replication. - Not like centrioles, Centrosome is needed for the survival of the organism. Acentrosomal cells or cells without centrosomes, lack of radial arrays of asral microtubules. They also lack spindle positioning and the ability to develop central localization in cytokinesis. The function of this centrosome is to ensure compliance with cell division, because it improves its performance. Some cell types will remain in the next cell cycle if there are no centrosomes.

The number of chromosomes in each cell is the same as the parent cell. During cell division, centrosome will maintain the number of chromosomes.

Edouard Van Beneden discovered the centrosome in 1883. 5 years later this discovery was given the name Setrosome, by Theodor Boveri in 1888.
