1 Kg How Many Ounces
The basic unit of weight according to the international system (AND) is gram. Where are other units such as kilograms, hectogram, decagram and other units are derived from this base unit.
In Indonesia alone, other than the gram-based unit of weight, there is also what is called an ounce unit.
What is kg? Kg (Kilogram), is a unit of kilogram (kg) of one mass unit / weight in the international system (AND).
What is Ounces? Ounces are a unit of mass that has various definitions, it depends on the unit system.
Say ons This itself comes from the Latin ounce, a unit of measure equivalent to one twelfth of a Roman pound. The ounce known in Indonesia was inherited by the Netherlands which has the same meaning 100 gram
The ounce unit that is often used in Indonesia is equivalent to the metric unit, this is because it does not refer to “ounce” , rather it refers to “metric ounce” version international avoirdupois.
Like above, that the ounce unit was first introduced by the Dutch when they were still in power in Indonesia. The Dutch use the unit “ounce” written but pronounced as “ons” which means equal to 100 gram.
The ounce unit was originally introduced by the Dutch as this unit of weight, still in use today (in Indonesia). But, actually in international system units (AND), there are the same units or in other words, equivalent in value to ons that is hectogram (hg).
So, 1 Ons = 1 hg, but the language that is often used or everyday language, The ounce unit is very often used to express the weight of an object, i.e. things that are less than 1 kg.
While, the hectogram unit is rarely or never used in everyday language, except in scientific literacy.
1 ons = 100 gram
Defined that 1 ounce is equivalent to 100 gram. In international system units (AND) , 1 ons = 1 hectogram (hg).
1 kg = 10 ons
Because 1 kilogram (kg) equal to 1.000 grams and 1 ons = 100 gram, then, 1 kilogram (kg) = 1.000/100 ons = 10 ons.
Ounces Conversion
It's been discussed before, that the name of the ounce unit has the official name in the metric system, namely the hectogram. Where 1 ons = 1 hg = 100 gram. Nah, see the table below, ounce equivalent to other metric system units of weight .
Ounces to Other Metric System Units of Weight |
1 ons = 0,1 kilogram (kg) |
1 ons = 1 hectogram (hg) |
1 ons = 10 decagram (day) |
1 ons = 100 gram (g) |
1 ons = 1.000 decigram (dg) |
1 ons = 10.000 centigram (cg) |
1 ons = 100.000 milligram (mg) |
Table 2 :
Other Metric System Units of Weight to Ounces |
1 kilogram (kg) = 10 ons |
1 hectogram (hg) = 1 ons |
1 decagram (day) = 0,1 ons |
1 gram (g) = 0,01 ons |
1 decigram (dg) = 0,001 ons |
1 centigram (cg) = 0,0001 ons |
1 milligram (mg) = 0,0001 ons |
Sample Questions
The following are some examples of unit conversion calculations related to kilograms and ounces of weight. Take a look at the following examples of questions and their solutions: ;
[su_box title=”Sample Questions and How to Calculate” style=”soft” box_color=”#2d973d” title_color=”#ffffff” radius=”10″]
Sample Questions 1 :
Count 3 kg + 4 ons + 50 gram = ….. ons
The solution :
Quantity = 3 kg+4 ons + 50 gram
= (3×10) ons + 4 ons + (50×0,01) ons
= 30 ons + 4 ons + 0,5 ons
= 34,5 ons
Sample Questions 2 :
Count 10 kg + 10 ons + 10 gram = ….. ons
The solution :
Quantity = 10 kg + 10 ons + 10 gram
= (10×10) ons + 10 ons + (10×0,01) ons
= 100 ons + 10 ons + 0,1 ons
= 110,1 ons
Sample Questions 3
Count 2,5 kg + 0,3 ons + 5 gram = ….. ons
The solution :
Quantity = 2,5 kg + 0,3 ons + 5 gram|
= (2,5×10) ons + 0,3 ons + (5×0,01) ons
= 25 ons + 0,3 ons + 0,05 ons
= 25,35 ons
Sample Questions 4
24 mango fruit weighed, total weight 3,6 kg. Then, how many ounces the average weight of one mango?
The solution :
Total mango weight = 3,6 kg = 3,6 × 10 ons = 36 ons
Number of mangoes= 24
Average weight = (total mango weight) / (number of mangoes)
Average weight = 36/24 = 1,5 ons
So, the average weight of one mango is 1,5 ons
Sample Questions 5
Mrs. Juminten is shopping for some cake ingredients, that is 1,5 kg of flour, 1 kg of eggs, 1/2 kg tapioca dan 1/4 kg of margarine. Count, how many ounces did Mrs. Juminten's whole groceries weigh??
The solution :
Quantity = weight of flour + egg weight + tapioca weight + margarine weight
= 1,5 kg + 1 kg + 1/2 kg + 1/4 kg
= (1,5×10) ons + (1×10) ons + (1/2×10) ons + (1/4×10) ons
= 15 ons + 10 ons + 5 ons + 2,5 ons
= 32,5 ons
So, The total weight of Mrs. Juminten's purchases is 32,5 ons
Sample Questions 6
Mother Rohaya has one and a half kilograms (kg) flour and only use 9 ounces as a cake mix. Count it, How much flour does Mrs. Rohaya have left??
The solution :
Leftover flour = Whole flour – flour to make cakes
Leftover flour = 1,5 kg – 9 ons
= (1,5×10) ons – 9 ons
= 15 ons – 9 ons
= 6 ons
So, The remaining flour that Mrs. Rohaya has is 6 ons.

1 hectogram (hg) = 1 ons
1 milligram (mg) = 0,0001 ons
1 gram (g) = 0,01 ons
